KNOEBELS, WALT DISNEY WORLD NAMED

TOP AMUSEMENT PARKS

 Lombard, IL – The National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA) released the results of its 30th annual NAPHA Amusement Park and Attractions Survey.  The NAPHA survey is the oldest of its type.

 “While perusing survey results is fun for enthusiasts,” noted NAPHA’s Survey Coordinator, Marlowe McClasky Futrell, “Parks also are interested in the findings, and many incorporate the results into their publicity materials.”

Some of the attractions seizing the top ratings in the NAPHA 2015 survey include:

·         Favorite Traditional Amusement Park:  Knoebels Amusement Resort (Elysburg, PA), for four years in a row.

·         Favorite Theme Park:  Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL), for thirteen consecutive years.

·         Best Park for Families:  Knoebels Amusement Resort

·         Most Beautiful Park:  Busch Gardens Williamsburg (Williamsburg, VA) for the 26th consecutive year.

·         Favorite Wood Coaster:  Phoenix, Knoebels Amusement Resort, for five years running.

·         Favorite Steel Coaster:  Millennium Force, Cedar Point (Sandusky, OH), since 2002.

·         Best New AttractionFury 325, Carowinds (Charlotte, NC).

 

NAPHA members are typically experienced riders who have visited countless amusement parks and have ridden a diverse assortment of roller coasters and other rides.  The average member has been to more than 125 different amusement parks and has ridden about 350 roller coasters. 

FAVORITE TRADITIONAL PARKS

Two Pennsylvania amusement parks, Knoebels Amusement Resort and Kennywood (West Mifflin, PA) have been neck and neck in the standings since 1996 with each holding one of the top two positions in this category.  This year Knoebels was voted number one, a position it also held in 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2010.

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA, has been voted the World’s Most Beautiful Amusement Park for twenty-six consecutive years.  Dollywood (Pigeon Forge, TN) was named the second most beautiful, a position it has held since 2013.

BEST POST-SUMMER SEASON PARKS

In terms of post-summer Halloween, Fall or Christmas amusement park seasonal events, the favorites of NAPHA members are Knoebels’ Hallo-Fun, which is kicked off by their Phall Phunfest, and Dollywood’s Smokey Mountain Christmas.

FAVORITE WOOD ROLLER COASTER

For the fifth consecutive year, the Phoenix was voted by NAPHA members as Favorite Wood Roller Coaster for the fifth consecutive year.  In a bit of an upset, Ravine Flyer II (Waldameer & Water World, Erie, PA) was named as members’ second favorite wood roller coaster, surpassing Holiday World’s Voyage which had been in one of the top two spots since 2011.

·         Favorite Traditional Amusement Park:  Knoebels Amusement Resort (Elysburg, PA)

·         Favorite Theme Park:  Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL)

·         Best Park for Families:  Idlewild & Soak Zone (Ligonier, PA)

·         Most Beautiful Park:  Busch Gardens Williamsburg (Williamsburg, VA) for the 25th consecutive year

Lombard, IL – The results of the 25th annual NAPHA Amusement Park and Attractions Survey have been released by the National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA).

 

The members of NAPHA named Knoebels Amusement Resort (Elysburg, PA) as their Favorite Traditional Amusement Park, while Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL) was their Favorite Theme ParkIdlewild (Ligonier, PA) topped the list as the Best Park for Families, while Busch Gardens Williamsburg was cited as the Most Beautiful Park for its twenty-first consecutive year.

 

Celebrating its Silver Anniversary, the NAPHA survey is the oldest of its type.  “Over the past twenty-five years, the survey has been highly regarded not only to enthusiasts, but to the industry.  Many parks feature the results prominently in their marketing and advertising materials,” noted NAPHA’s Survey Coordinator, Marlowe McClasky Futrell. 

 

 

FAVORITE TRADITIONAL PARKS

Knoebels Amusement Resort and Kennywood (West Mifflin, PA) have been neck and neck in the standings since1996 with each in holding one of the top two positions in this category.  This year Knoebels was voted number one, surpassing Kennywood which has held the top position for the last two years.  Blackpool Pleasure Beach (Blackpool, UK) came in third, as it has since 2008.

Topping the list were Kennywood (West Mifflin, PA) which once again was named by NAPHA members as the world’s favorite traditional park, and Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL) which won honors as the top theme park.  Perennial favorites, Voyage (Holiday World, Santa Claus, IN) and Millennium Force (Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH) topped the list for the favorite wood and steel coasters, respectively.  In addition, Busch Gardens (Williamsburg, VA) was voted the most beautiful park for the twentieth consecutive year.  Three roller coasters were named the Best New Attractions of 2009 – Diamondback at Kings Island (Kings Island, OH), Manta at Sea World in Orlando, and the Worlds of Fun’s Prowler (Kansas City, MO).

Mt. Prospect, ILThe National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA) released the results of its 22nd Annual NAPHA Amusement Parks and Attractions survey.  The oldest of its type, it is highly regarded within the amusement park industry. 

 

Kennywood (West Mifflin, PA) and Knoebels Amusement Resort (Elysburg, PA), both perennial favorites, tied as the top traditional park in the world, while Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL) was named as the number one theme park.

 

Knoebels’ Phoenix roller coaster, and the Voyage at Holiday World (Santa Claus, IN) tied for the top wooden roller coasters while Millennium Force at Cedar Point (Sandusky, OH), was once again the favorite steel coaster.  Cedar Point also won a second category with its Maverick roller coaster being named 2007’s best new attraction.

  • Kennywood regained its number one ranking, a position it has held since 1992, until last year when it dropped to the second spot.

Top vote getters this year include Knoebels Amusement Park & Resort (Elysburg, PA) which was named both Favorite Traditional Amusement Park, and Best Park For Families, while Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL) won honors as Favorite Theme Park.  Favorite Wood Coaster went to the Phoenix (Knoebels Amusement Park & Resort) for the third straight year, while the Magnum XL200 (Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH) was identified as Favorite Steel Coaster.

TOP NEW ATTRACTION

The favorite new attraction of NAPHA members in 2006 was Holiday World’s Voyage, which was also named as the second favorite wooden roller coaster.  Past winners have included Hades at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park (Wisconsin Dells, WI) (2005), Dollywood’s Thunderhead (Pigeon Forge, TN) (2004), Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster (2003), Kennywood’s Phantom’s Revenge (2001), and Cedar Point’s Millennium Force (2000).

The National Amusement Park Historical Association, founded in 1978, is an international, educational and enthusiast’s organization dedicated to preserving and documenting the heritage of the amusement park industry, past, present and future.

Mt. Prospect, IL – The National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA), the country’s largest amusement park enthusiast organization, has released the results of its 20th Annual NAPHA Amusement Parks and Attractions survey, the oldest of its type. The survey is highly regarded within the amusement park industry and within the enthusiasts’ circles.
