Ferris Wheel Damaged By Katrina Gets Replaced
Dow Chemical Donated Money For New Ride

NEW ORLEANS -- An iconic figure is returning to City Park as officials prepare to debut the new Ferris wheel at the facility.
The park's old Ferris wheel was damaged by Hurricane Katrina, so the Dow Chemical Company Foundation donated the funds for a new wheel.
The new ride is bigger, holds more riders and offers breathtaking views. The old Ferris wheel was 50 feet tall and could seat 36 passengers, but the new one will soar to 67 feet and seat 48 people.
About 40 students from Christian Brothers School will help Dow and City Park officials take the wheel for its first spin Wednesday morning.
The amusement park is accessible through the front gate at the intersection of Anseman and Victory avenues within the park.
The park addresses a large demand from parents for fun activities for their children. Also, many of the amusement park features, such as the train, the carousel, the Ferris wheel and the ladybug roller coaster, are local icons.
The amusement park also generates much-needed revenue for the park, and folks at Dow said the Ferris wheel will be a symbol of fun and laughter for children and adults alike.
The new Ferris wheel is expected to be a bit hit at this year's "Celebration In The Oaks" event, which kicks off Nov. 28.
