NAPHA Members Help Our Troops! By Martha B. Amborn Just prior to hosting our NAPHA party in October, I heard of an effort by one of our local teachers to collect items for “care packages” for Illinois troops stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Kosovo. Fortunately, being “e-mail central”, I was able to send an urgent request for attendees of the meeting to please bring items for donation. The response was overwhelming! We had six large boxes of contributions, with everything from food, books, toiletries, and monetary contributions much needed for the postage to ship theses packages to our troops. Our enthusiasm was contagious as our two smallest next-door neighbors, Patrick and Tommy, wanted to join in and together we put together a “block-effort” and collected even more donations. I tell ya', I am so proud of what our NAPHA members and my boys next door did! Tonight (11/14), with the help of Albert and a handcart, all donations were delivered to the Oak View Community Center in Oak Lawn, and placed in the care of Jacky Connelly, a wonderfully devoted volunteer who has organized all of this. Mrs. Jacky Connelly pays for many things "out-of-pocket" and on a teacher's salary. There is an URGENT NEED for money for postage. Stamps (she even mentioned those pesky 'ole stamps from earlier postal rates that annoy everyone but she can use to add to boxes), money for stamps, or U.S. Postal Service gift cards. Checks can be written directly to Jacky Connelly, or to us and we will buy the stamps for her. I also failed to mention that Patrick and Tommy love roller coasters and may be future NAPHA members! THANK YOU to all our NAPHA Members! Contributions are collected year-round. Also, we will be accepting collections at Whirlyball in January! Nov. 15,2008 UPDATE from Martha-we received 3 more bags of donations today, and the boys next door got 2 more boxes! We are all hyped! IF ANY AMUSEMENT PARK FANS and "NON-AMUSEMENT PARK FANS" WOULD LIKE TO HELP OUR BOYS OVER THERE, All contributions can be mailed or dropped off at: AL & MARTHA AMBORN 10340 S. Thank you! Thank You!! THANK YOU!!! My goodness, thank you so very much!!!!!! There are no words to express my sincere appreciation to you and Pat, Tommy and Mrs."H" for all the donations for our soldiers AND for the fantastic contributions for postage to mail the terrific donations. ALSO thank you so very much for taking your good deed a HUGE step furthur and posting it to the web thru your club. I went to your club's web site and just cried with joy and a BIG smile as I saw the fantastic soldier link and your posting. How lucky our fellow Americans serving overseas are to have such wonderful advoctaes on the homefront to keep up their spirits thru our boxes and all the positive thoughts you are generating thru your club. As to your questions, yes the soldiers love to receive phone cards. Just delighted to hear that more people are coming in with item donations too! Thank all the wonderful "coaster folks" (as you mentioned ) for their support too. Together we are making a difference in the lives of our soldiers letting them know we care and keeping their moral high. Thank you again from my heart and on behalf of the many soldiers who lives are better for all we do! Gratefully! Mrs. Jacky : ) PS~ I have been thinking of Riverview Park with warm memories since meeting you. I'm not a rollar coaster girl, but truly enjoyed my families trips there when I was little. Thanks for the memories! |

**UPDATE** From: Albert Amborn [mailto:coasteram@att.net] Subject: More good news from our "Help The Troops" effort! Generosity just keeps on coming! Our Thanksgiving celebration included NAPHA members Scott Planeta and Craig Burda, both of which brought troop contributions. In addition, Al's cousin Steve added more. Most special, my very good friend, Patricia McNicholas, who is a professor at Robert Morris College, delivered over 300 Christmas cards signed by faculty and students for our troops! We will be making a delivery to Mrs. Jacky on Friday. Thanks again to all the support from NAPHA, our relatives, neighbors and friends. Don't forget to look for those after-Christmas sales as I will have boxes for contributions at Whirlyball! Thank you. Martha |
